Seattle’s St. Joseph School supports Water 1st

2006-07 St. Joe’s fifth graders

After learning about Water 1st and sustainable solutions to the water crisis, this year’s ‘06-’07 St. Joe’s fifth graders decided to raise money for Water 1st through a Talent Show. Students collected donations at the door and put on an evening of music with various singing and music acts. The 150 member audience enjoyed a wonderful evening for a worthy cause. More than $1,400 was raised for Water 1st.

2005-06 St. Joe’s fifth graders

As part of their science curriculum on water ecology, ‘05-’06 fifth grade students at St. Joe’s became aware of the need for sustainable safe water resources. After learning about the extraordinary need in the world and learning about the work of Water 1st, the students organized a fundraiser and decided to sell “Otter Pops” after school. A marketing campaign began with the slogan “Colored Water for Clean Water.” Some students made posters while others prepared speeches to share with the school community. The students raised $652.

Fifth grade teachers Cathy Hamblet, Patrice Theisen, and Donna Ramos said, “We are honored to be sending you a check that reflects the time, energy, and efforts of our 5th grade students. Please know that the enclosed check comes to you because of the creativity and imagination of 73 fifth graders who care deeply about the global community. Their dedication to making a positive impact on the world is truly inspiring. We will continue to do our part to create sustainable clean water for all the citizens of our earth.”

Water 1st gives a heartfelt thank you to these students, and to the St. Joe’s community, for their generosity and important role in making safe water a reality!
