Tal Peleg of Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School Raises $1,100

The 7th-grade class at Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School in Palo Alto, California, took part in an award winning philanthropy project, Avodah L'Olam, featured in the New York Times. Students research and choose a non-profit organization, educate themselves on it, do a presentation, and raise money for the causes of their choice. Seventh-grader Tal Peleg chose Water 1st as his charity of choice and raised $1,100!

“To raise money, we held various fundraising events, babysat, worked in restaurants, and donated in honor of each other's Bar/Bat Mitzvahs instead of giving presents,” said Tal. “I would like to do the most I can to solve the water problem in the world, and donating to an organization like Water 1st is one way to do that.”

Water 1st board member Daniel Won represented Water 1st at the Avodah L’Olam celebration on May 29 in Palo Alto. “It’s a pretty amazing program—to inculcate a sense of giving at that age," said Daniel. “I was impressed with Tal’s presentation and how informed he had become on water issues and Water 1st. It was amazing to see these kids embrace their projects. For all of the bad news out there, you participate in a day like that and it's hard not to be a little hopeful about the world.”

Congratulations and thank you, Tal!
