In March, 2008 Water 1st, along with 8 supporters, visited our projects in Bangladesh. Water 1st works in the slums of Dhaka, Bangladesh, where four million people live as squatters and slum dwellers. Most of these four million people have no access to safe drinking water or latrines. Water 1st works with our local partner organization, DSK, to correct this problem.

Demra Slum is located in the capital city of Bangladesh - Dhaka City. Dhaka is the fastest growing city in Asia, with a population of nearly 14 million people. Four million people live in squatter settlements, such as Demra.
Water 1st visited the community of Demra Slum in the Fall of 2005, to document the water and sanitation problems currently faced by residents.

While in Mirpur slum in October, 2005, the Water 1st team met with community members who have already implemented water and sanitation projects. We also met with the all-female water point committees who have been elected by their respective communities to manage their new water points.
